CBP seizes load of meth at Bridge of the Americas

Customs and Border Protection officers seized 33 pounds of methamphetamine at the Bridge of the Americas Monday.

The seizure was made at approximately 6:30 a.m. when the driver at the primary inspection station directed the driver of a 1989 GMC Suburban to the secondary inspection area.

CBP officers scanned the vehicle with an x-ray system and noted anomalies in the appearance of the spare tire, officials said.

That led to an exam that helped the CBP officers find 14 bundles hidden in the tire. The contents of the packages tested positive for methamphetamine, officials said.

CBP officers took custody of the driver, a 49-year-old Mexican man, and turned him over to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office to face charges.

The man was not identified.
