Starr Western Wear to open new westside location this Summer

Starr Western Wear has been in the borderland for more than fifty years. The iconic store will be adding a new and bigger location in west El Paso this summer.

Erick Garcia has been an employee at Starr Western Wear for almost sixteen years as a hat shaper.

“I used to work in the store downtown and as a kid we would go to the downtown store and I never saw myself working there, but I guess it just happened,” Garcia said.

Starr’s iconic store is located on East Overland in downtown El Paso. Their second location is located in East El Paso. Starr’s new store will now take both floors of the old Macy’s building in Sunland Park Mall, making it the biggest western wear store in the region.

“We want to create jobs we want to work with the community. We want to be a part of the excitement that’s happening,” said Edie Zuvanich, marketing director for the western store.

Adding a new west side location is something she says many customers have been asking for.

“We just really want to respond to what our customers are asking us for what our employees are asking us for and there’s so much opportunity right now in the westside.”

Zuvanich says that the stability of the store is one of the main reasons Starr has been in the borderland for more than 50 years.

“When everybody knows we’re gonna move there we’re gonna stay. It’s something they can count on. They can count on us as part of the growth.”

The new location will include the same brands and services as the downtown and eastside stores.
