San Elizario boys soccer team advances to 4A state championship game

The San Elizario boys soccer team is now one win away from securing the program’s second state title in the past four seasons.

The Eagles defeated Madisonville by a final of 3-0 Wednesday in the Class 4A Final Four to book their spot in Friday’s state championship game.

San Elizario got on the board in the first half courtesy of a brilliant free kick by Eric Valdez.

The Eagles kept firing away in the second half looking for an insurance goal. That goal finally came with just over five minutes to go when Israel Garcia’s shot found its way under the keeper’s gloves and rolled into the net.

Kevin Betancourt of San Elizario would add a third goal moments later to erase any doubt about the final outcome.

The Eagles will face Palestine in the state title game.
