UTEP OL Will Hernandez not selected in first round of NFL Draft

UTEP offensive lineman Will Hernandez was not selected in the first round of the NFL Draft Thursday night.

Hernandez would have become the first UTEP player selected in the first round in 50 years.

Two UTEP players were selected in the first round in 1968.

Linebacker Fred Carr was taken by Green Bay with the fifth overall pick. He remains the highest draft pick to ever come out of UTEP. Offensive lineman George Daney was selected by the Chiefs with the 22nd overall pick that year.

Hernandez watched the first night of the draft with friends and family in his hometown of Las Vegas.

He is expected to eventually become the second Miner drafted in the past two seasons after the Green Bay Packers took former UTEP running back Aaron Jones in the fifth round in 2017.
