New Sunland Park flyover ramp opens after 24-hour closure

A new flyover ramp from Sunland Park Drive to Interstate 10 opened Monday morning after a more than 24-hour closure.

The closure started early Sunday morning to allow crews to finish work on the ramp. It is all part of the GO 10 project meant to overhaul part of I-10 in west El Paso.

Drivers were forced to take detours to avoid the construction area over the weekend.

The ramp was open by 5 a.m. Monday morning, ahead of schedule.

More construction will continue on the Sunland Park Dr. overpass that goes over I-10. It will be down to one lane on each side.

During the closure, crews reconfigured traffic patterns. The changes will be in place for the next five months.

The overpass will eventually be torn down with a new one expected to go up in its place.
