20-year-old killed in motorcycle crash fleeing from State Trooper

El Paso Police said a 20-year-old man was killed Sunday morning after fleeing from law enforcement.

The incident happened just before 3 a.m. in far East El Paso on Loop 375 near mile post 35.

Investigators said a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper was attempting to stop a 20-year-old man driving a motorcycle for a traffic infraction.

Officials said the driver refused to stop and fled from the DPS trooper. The motorcyclist lost control of his vehicle and struck the guardrail. Investigators said the driver was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene.

This is the 16th fatality this year compared to 17 at this time last year.

The identity of the 20-year-old is being withheld until next of kin can be notified.
