Portions of VA annex building evacuated; appointments canceled as a result of harmful odor

The El Paso Veteran Affairs evacuated portions of its annex building near Piedras and Pierce Avenue “in response to a noxious odor.”

This happened around 10:50 a.m. Friday. VA officials said all employees and Veterans were immediately evacuated from the annex.

The Ft Bliss Fire Department and the Ft Bliss Hazmat Team quickly responded, conducted a room to room search, and found the building to be safe.

The remainder of the El Paso VA Health Care System continued normal operations.

Veterans whose appointments were affected will be contacted early next week to reschedule.

Officials said normal operation will resume as of Saturday morning.
