Church holds pride service at San Jacinto Plaza

One week before El Paso’s Sun City Pride Fest, residents gathered at San Jacino Plaza for the annual pride church service, which celebrates members of the LGBTQ community.

The Metropolitan Community Church of El Paso held the event with Sun City Pride. Jessica McKay is a church member.

“I’m actually straight, but one of the things I was looking or in a church was making sure I wouldn’t have to worry about who’s not allowed in, who can’t feel welcome, who can’t feel appreciated,” McKay said.

While some describe the church as non-traditional, it takes on some traditions you’re probably familiar with, such as singing, praying and reading bible verses. Members are Christian.

“It’s so friendly and easy going,” Reverend Kati Houts said. “We’re there for them and we provide that good feeling for them.”

This year Sun City Pride is from May 27-June 3. For more information click here.
