Pedestrian in downtown El Paso crash has died

The pedestrian involved in a serious crash in downtown El Paso has died, the El Paso Police Department reported Tuesday.

Hector Avila, age 58, was crossing the intersection at Mesa and Montana on May 20 when he was struck by a vehicle turning right onto Mesa.

Police said the driver, 38-year-old Leandro Casella, failed to yield to the pedestrian in the crosswalk.

Avila was originally transported to a local hospital in critical condition. He died on May 25. The investigation is continuing.
