Chihuahuas win Wednesday night on Javy Guerra walk-off single

Javy Guerra connected on a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth Wednesday evening to give the Chihuahuas a 4-3 win over Sacramento in the first game of a five-game series.

The Chihuahuas scored the final four runs of the game after falling behind 3-0 early.

Sacramento’s Austin Slater hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth to give the River Cats a 1-0 lead.

Slater then delivered a single in the top of the seventh that scored two and put his side up 3-0.

But the Chihuahuas would not go away. The team manufactured three runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game. Those runs came on a bases loaded walk, a single, and a double play sacrifice fly.

Guerra then delivered the winning hit later in the ninth, allowing Diego Goris to come home to end the game.

The Chihuahuas improved to 27-27 with the win while Sacramento fell to 25-29.

The two teams will meet again Thursday night with the first pitch slated for 6:35 p.m.
