UPDATE: Officials release name of victim killed in Clint train collision

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Maria Georgina Ruiz Martinez, 52, was killed in the train collision Wednesday evening in Clint.

A car got stuck on the railroad tracks and was hit by a train, said a spokesperson with El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

It happened around 6:30 p.m. on the 400 block of San Elizario Rd.

Deputies said the car was heading south when for some unknown reason, it got stuck on the tracks. Three people inside the car were able to get out before the train struck the car.

Ruiz Martinez was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries where she later died.

Special Traffic Investigators and Crime Scene Investigators were requested at the scene.
