Woman recorded stealing packages; police investigating

A Las Cruces man told ABC-7 he recorded a woman stealing a package off his front porch.

“It looked coordinated to me,” the man said, asking not to be identified because he doesn’t know who targeted his house.

The man was able to record her using software that monitors who approaches his door. He told ABC-7 he ordered a cell phone, which the woman stole.

“As soon as she picked up the package, she turned and the car pulled right up and picked her up, drove right off,” the man said.

“It’s very unfortunate that we have this type of crime,” said Dan Trujillo, a spokesman for the Las Cruces Police Department.

Trujillo recommends that homeowners invest in doorbell alert systems to prevent theft inside or outside their homes.

“Video always helps,” Trujillo said. “It’s better than not having video.”

He also suggested that homeowners have packages delivered to an office or another secure location.
