LCPD: Man Breaks Into Apartment to Take A Nap

A Las Cruces man is in custody after police say he allegedly broke into an apartment for some sleep.

Las Cruces Police department Officers arrested Anthony J. Atkinson, 29, after investigators responded to a break-in at an apartment complex on 808 West Idaho Avenue.

Shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday evening, an employee of the apartment complex noticed the open door and notified police. Investigators arrived at the scene and immediately took the suspect into custody.

According to police, Atkinson allegedly kicked down the door of a recently vacated apartment with the intention of sleeping inside. The sleeping allegation follows after investigators discovered clothing and duffel bags belonging to the suspect inside of a bedroom.

Atkinson was booked initially without bond into the Dona Ana County Detention Center, where he is charged with one count of breaking and entering, considered a fourth-degree felony.
