Mayor: El Paso remains an ‘unknown jewel’

El Paso Mayor Dee Margo spent most of his Monday morning at the 86th annual meeting of the United States conference of Mayors.

There the mayor got to speak with and network with hundreds of mayors across the nation.

One thing he said he was facinated about, was having to explain where El Paso was and who we are as a city.

“The biggest thing I have been looking at as networking is exaplaining to other mayors who El Paso is, we’re still an unknown jewel,” Mayor Dee Margo said.

El Paso ranks 19th as the most populous U.S. city. Given the fact that there are currently several Texas Department of Transportation projects to expand and improve traffic. As well as the addition of several projects including Top Golf and the Streetcar project, many people outside the state seem to be in the dark as to who we are.

One thing that can be an invaluable tool in measuring city growth is the 2020 census, something the Mayor is focusing on going forward.

“We’ve been meeting on that, and mayors are actually engaged in El Paso, and we are working with many non-profits to make sure we get our count in there,” Margo said.
