Teenager charged for pedestrian wreck…

Police Monday identified the driver who allegedly admitted to running over and killing a popular Northeast El Paso barber Friday night.

Jose Carlos Ramirez, 18, was charged with “Accident Involving Death.”

Police responded to the pedestrian fatality at about 11:35 p.m. on July 6th on the 5000 block of Dyer.

“An investigation revealed 46-year-old Nasheed Anwaar was crossing Dyer – not an intersection or crosswalk – when he was struck by a vehicle traveling north on Dyer,” police said in a news release.

Investigators said Ramirez was driving the 2013 Ford F-150 that struck Anwaar. Ramirez allegedly failed to stop and render aid at the scene, police said. Several minutes after the collision, Ramirez allegedly returned to the scene and told officers he was the driver of the vehicle that struck Anwaar.

Anwaar was known as “G,” from his birth name George. He operated “G’s Cuts and Clips” near Dyer and Hayes. Friends told ABC-7 he was crossing the street near his business after getting a call someone was trying to break into his shop. Anwaar was struck and killed near the corner of Hayes and Dyer in Northeast El Paso, police said.

Ramirez was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility under a $200,000 bond. He was also booked for two outstanding traffic warrants for speeding.
