Police identify man killed in deadly rollover on Dyer

Police identified the man killed in a wreck Friday evening as 42-year-old Ernesto Alonzo Valdez.

The wreck happened on the 6900 block of Dyer at 6:19 p.m. on July 27, 2018.

Police said a preliminary investigation revealed Valdez was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Blazer south on the 9600 block of Dyer.

Police said Valdez lost control of the vehicle and “it slid over the median onto the northbound lanes and into the path” of a Ford Expedition heading north on Dyer.

The two vehicles collided, causing the Blazer to roll, police said. Valdez died at the scene

The driver of the Expedition, 50-year-old Yolanda Peña, and her two passengers, ages five and three, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
