Fort Bliss soldier charged in…

A Fort Bliss soldier remains jailed in Otero County after he was allegedly involved in a shooting that left a man wounded in the Alamogordo area, police said.

Shortly before midnight on Friday, September 21, 2018, officers with the Alamogordo Police Department responded to the 1000 block of Arapaho Trail after a man was shot.

While in route, the police officers learned there was a large fight and multiple people were seen leaving the area. The male victim was transported to Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The officers and detectives obtained a description of the alleged suspects as well the description of the suspect vehicle.

The vehicle was located a short time later, unoccupied and parked at a residence outside the Alamogordo city limits.

The Alamogordo Police Department, with the assistance of the Otero County Sheriff’s Office, executed search warrants on residences in the 900 block of Arapaho Trail and Crestwood Lane.

Davejon Edwards, 21, of El Paso, Texas, was arrested and charged with one count of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon, one count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Cocaine), and Shooting at or from a Motor Vehicle.

Edwards, who remains jailed, is waiting to appear before a magistrate court judge. A spokesperson with Fort Bliss confirmed Edwards is a soldier with the First Armored Division.
