LCPD: warrant issued for felon who…

Las Cruces police are asking for the public’s help in locating a felon suspected of pointing a handgun at a man and firing off rounds into the air after confronting his ex-girlfriend Friday evening.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Juan Angel Pinedo, 32, following the incident that took place on the 200 block of south Reymond Street on September 21st.

According to police, Pinedo allegedly drove up to a vehicle that was parked at about 11:30 P.M. when witnesses say he pointed a handgun at the driver. Pindeo’s ex-girlfriend, who was nearby, intervened by walking between the two vehicles and shoving the suspect’s arm out of the way.

Pinedo reportedly fired two rounds into the air as he drove away, heading south on Reymond Street. No injuries were reported.

Police learned the suspect had dated his ex-girlfriend for five years before their relationship had ended in February 2018. At that point, the ex-girlfriend obtained an order of protection against Pinedo that forbid him from having any contact with her.

Investigators learned that the order of protection, which was granted on September 10th, had expired that day on September 21st.

He has since been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, shooting at or from a motor vehicle, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Pindeo is Hispanic, 5-feet-6-inches tall, and weighs approximately 140 pounds. He has short black hair and brown eyes, and was said to be armed with a black semi-automatic handgun. Pinedo was last seen driving a silver 1990’s model Chevrolet Suburban.

Las Cruces Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to his capture. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Juan Angel Pinedo is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Tips can also be provided through the Las Cruces Crime Stoppers app, “P3 TIPS.” Those who provide tips through Crime Stoppers do not have to leave their own name and can remain completely anonymous.
