LCPD: young boy struck by vehicle on Cambridge Drive has died

A 5 year-old boy who was struck by a vehicle in Las Cruces on Friday afternoon has died from his injures.

The child’s death follows an incident that occurred on September 21st, at the 100 block of W. Cambridge Drive.

According to investigators, a Toyota pickup was heading eastbound on Cambridge when the boy walked onto the roadway from between two two parked vehicles.

The drive, 17 year-old, was unable to stop the vehicle in time before the truck struck the boy. The driver remained on scene following the accident and cooperated with first responders and investigators.

The boy was airlifted to University Medical Center of El Paso in critical condition, where he would stay until he was pronounced dead shortly after 7 P.M. On Sunday, September 23rd.

At this time, no charges or citations are expected to be filed. Speed, alcohol, and distracted driving are not believed to be contributing factors to the crash.
