Teens trying to steal pot end up with oregano

A group of teens smashed a van through the storefront of a Colorado pot dispensary and stole a number of items on display inside. However, the bandits probably won’t enjoy the “marijuana” they thought they stole.

Our product is never out,” Kim Casey said. “We have pre-rolled joints on display in our packaging in our display cases. We do not put actual medicated product in them, so we use oregano to simulate the cannabis.”

Just before 1 a.m., the thieves were seen smashing a stolen van through the storefront.

The owner of the store, “Native Roots,” explained the store does not put real weed in the display items. He said they pre-rolled joints on display in packaging in display cases. The oregano is used to simulate marijuana.

Just before 1 a.m., the thieves were seen smashing a stolen van through the storefront.

“It went all the way through the front foyer of the business and inside,” said Sgt. L.C. Morgan with the Colorado Springs Police Department.

“I was coming out from work, and all of a sudden we heard this big old crash,” said witness Brent Wrathbone . “… [The suspects] came out with bunches of marijuana in their arms.”

The thieves left the van parked and running inside the store before escaping in a waiting getaway car. The teens caused thousands of dollars in damage.

“With the damage that people have done just to you know, just to get high which .. it’s

not worth it,” Wrathbone said.

Native Roots says it hopes to have everything fixed within the next few days.
