Centennial’s key defensive touchdown wins Sweet Play of the Week

It appeared the only thing that might slow down the Centennial Hawks this season was Mother Nature.

On a rainy and chilly night last week, the Hawks found themselves in a 0-0 deadlock with Mayfield in the second half.

Points were clearly at a premium due to the tough conditions, but Centennial still found a way to reach paydirt thanks to a pick-six orchestrated by two players.

Aidan Trujillo came off the edge on a blitz and was able to tip a pass in the air. Brent Rigtrup then ran under the ball and took it back to the house to give the Hawks a 7-0 lead. They would then go on to beat the Trojans by a final of 13-0.

“We worked really hard in the offseason,” said Rigtrup. “We can’t ask for much more from all these guys on both sides of the ball.”

Trujillo echoed Rigtrup’s sentiment that the harder you work, the luckier you seem to get.

“We just worked hard, and good things happen when you work hard and give good effort,” said Trujillo.

Centennial is now just two wins away from completing a perfect regular season. They will meet Hobbs on the road Friday before taking on Gadsden in another road contest on Nov 2.
