17-year-old accused in deadly hit-and-run pleads not guilty

The teen driver accused of a hit-and-run crash that killed a 13-year-old girl has pleaded not guilty in the case.

17-year-old Samuel Garcia entered his plea during his arraignment hearing in court this week.

Police say Garcia told them he fell asleep at the wheel before he struck her on Sept. 7 and woke up to the girl’s body on the hood.

Garcia is now facing a charge of accident involving death.

The crash happened on the 5500 block of Montoya Dr. in the Upper Valley. Since the crash, the city has begun work on road improvements including adding speed bumps.
