October is Dyslexia Awareness Month

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month. More than three million Americans are diagnosed with the learning disorder every year.

According to the Mayo Clinic, Dyslexia is a disorder affects the parts of the brain that process language.
It involves difficulty reading because of problems identifying speech sounds and learning how to relate to letters and words. It affects the parts of the brain that process language.

The disorder has no cure. Many times. the disorder goes undiagnosed for years and isn’t caught until many reach adulthood. Early assessment and intervention are the best outcome for those who suffer from the disorder.

Griselda Provencio Oaxaca, director of Dyslexia Institutes of America, and Angie Rodriguez, who has dyslexia spoke to ABC-7’s Mauricio Casillas to discuss the disorder.
