Massive fire at recycling plant in Horizon

A fire that sent a giant plume of black smoke over Horizon is being extinguished, as fire crews are still fighting the flames at a recycling plant.

Horizon Fire received the first call about the fire around 1:30 p.m. The plume of smoke was so strong it could be seen from downtown El Paso.

The property owner told ABC-7 the area is a recycling plant and plastic material was burning.

The fire burned for more than three hours.

Sheriff deputies and state troopers cleared the area of bystanders after were popping noises could be heard coming from the fire.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
