ABC-7 Xtra: The Downtown streetcars are back, but is that a good thing?

It’s a scene that El Pasoans haven’t seen since 1974.

Downtown streetcars are back to roaming the streets of El Paso.

It was a decade-long process to bring back the streetcars that once to used to serve not only El Paso but also across the border in Juarez.

The dream started to become reality back in 2012 when the Texas Department of Transportation announced it would invest $97 million into the streetcar project in El Paso.

It’s a project that many residents are excited about but it also has it doubters.

Many others have also questioned the amount of money the state and city have implemented into the project.

On ABC-7 Xtra, host Saul Saenz will speak with former city representative Steve Ortega, and you can voice your opinion and provide your comments by calling 496-1771.
