Second person has died after home invasion shooting Thanksgiving Day

A second person has died as result of a deadly home invasion on Thanksgiving Day.

Jonathan Salas, 24, was shot on Nov. 22, after a man broke into his family’s home on the 8000 block of Signal Peak Place in Northeast El Paso.

His father, Juan Salas, 58, was shot and killed. His mother, Lorenza Salas was shot in the eye and is recovering.

On Dec. 4, the family’s pastor confirmed with ABC-7 that Jonathan died from his injuries.

Police have identified the suspect as Jason Gibson, 38.

Earlier that day, Gibson allegedly beat an 86-year-old man then kidnapped a woman in Las Cruces and forced her to drive him to El Paso.

He allegedly took a car from that home in Northeast El Paso and drove to Florida where he was arrested.

Gibson was extradited to El Paso on Friday, Nov. 30.

The family’s pastor, Father Mark Salas, confirmed that there will be a rosary prayer service on Dec. 5 at 8 p.m. and a funeral mass at noon on Thursday, Dec. 6 at the Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church at 4800 Byron St.
