Post Office putting in extra hours to deliver mail this holiday season

As we see every year around this time, local post offices are seeing heavier volume with both packages and letters. Regina Boutte, manager of customer service at the El Paso Airport Post Office, says that postal workers have had to fill up twice, instead of once, each day because of the high volume of mail.

One load is taken for packages and another is taken for letters says Bouttee. Some El Paso locations are even opening up 30 minutes early for customers who wish to ship packages. Those locations include the main office near the airport, Sandy Creek on the East Side, Northgate in the Northeast, and Coronado on the West Side.

Self service Kiosks are also available 24/7 at the Coronado, Airport, and Sandy Creek locations. You can buy stamps and send packages at the kiosks.

“It has been very busy, this is one of our busiest times here at the post office. This is one of our busiest weeks and it started around the 17th to the 23rd,” says Boutte.

Boutte says that the increasing popularity of Amazon has led to a larger number of packages this year.

Online shopping is becoming increasingly popular each holiday season and 2018 is expected to be the busiest yet with a 16.6 percent increase from last year forecasted by marketing research company, eMarketer.
