UTEP took on Norfolk State in the first round of the Sun Bowl Invitational

The first day of the West Star Bank, Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational is in the books.

UTEP had the Norfolk State Spartans on their plate first.

Start of the first half, Spartans moving the ball around well and Mastadi Pitt is draining threes well!!!!

Norfolk State starting off hot, Pitt gets the rock and pulls up for the easy jumper and splash.

Spartans laying it on, BJ Fitzgerald drains the three!

Miners trying to get something going late in the second. The senior Paul Thomas gets the ball in the lane, he pump fakes then pulls up for the two and one! 15 to 11 Norfolk state at that point.

What up Rick!!!!

Second half, Miners not quitting, Thomas starts at the top of the key and makes his way to the bucket and one!

Spartans though were in control all game, Joey Bryant Jr. getting around Evan Gillyard to take it to the rim for the score!

The Miners fall in the first round of their tournament 75 to 62. They will play Wyoming today at the Don.

This is what coach Rodney Terry said after the game, “We will give credit to Norfolk today. They came in, and this is really hard for me to say but, they out competed us for 40 minutes.”
