Border Patrol agent struck, killed crossing highway

A U.S. Border Patrol agent died in the line of duty over the weekend when she was struck and killed by a compact sport utility vehicle while crossing an Interstate 20 access road near Abilene.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says 49-year-old Agent Donna Marie Doss was assisting the DPS when she was struck about 8:15 p.m. Saturday near Tye, about 10 miles west of Abilene. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Occupants of the SUV weren’t injured. No charges were filed, but the DPS says the driver was detained for blood and toxicology tests.

Doss, who lived in Abilene, had been with the patrol since November 2003 and is survived by her parents, husband, two stepchildren and two brothers.
