LCPD identifies woman killed in wreck Saturday

Police in Las Cruces identified the woman killed in Saturday morning’s wreck as 26-year-old Naomi Brandi Flores.

The wreck happened at the intersection of Spruce Avenue and Walnut Street at about 2:20 a.m. Saturday, February, 2, 2019.

Police said an investigation revealed Flores was a backseat passenger in a 1995 Chevrolet pickup traveling north along Walnut Street.

The 26-year-old man driving the Chevy pickup had a green light at Spruce and was continuing north through the intersection where Walnut turns into Kilmer Street.

“Las Cruces police investigators believe a 2012 Ford pickup, driven by a 26-year-old man, was traveling east on Spruce and failed to stop at the red light. The Ford pickup collided broadside with the Chevy pickup at the intersection,” police said in a news release.

Flores and the driver of the Chevy pickup were both ejected from the vehicle. Police said investigators believe Flores and the driver of the Chevy pickup were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Flores was critically injured and rushed to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said. The driver of the Chevy pickup was not seriously injured and refused transportation to the hospital.

The driver of the Ford pickup and a 24-year-old woman who was also a passenger of the Chevy pickup were not seriously injured in the crash.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash and no charges have been filed at this time.
