Las Cruces soccer standout Taya Lopez signs with Texas Tech

Las Cruces soccer standout Taya Lopez signed her letter of intent to continue her career with Texas Tech in a special ceremony Friday afternoon.

Friends, family, teammates, and coaches joined Lopez at Las Cruces High School as she put pen to paper.

While getting a chance to play soccer at Texas Tech is quite an honor, Lopez says there are many people who helped her along the way.

“Definitely my coaches and my family. My coach from Albuquerque, he couldn’t come today, but he was the one who helped me out the most – Pancho,” said Lopez. “And [I’d like to thank] my trainers and my coaches here and my high school coaches as well.”

Lopez, a forward, said she had some interest from other schools, but Texas Tech is the perfect fit.

“The atmosphere of Texas Tech is what caught my eye. And the coaches there and the environment and the team welcomed me, so it was an easy decision to pick Texas Tech,” she said.
