Pedestrian struck in Lower Valley dies, El Paso Police say

The El Paso man struck by the driver of a pickup truck in late January has died, said El Paso Police.

Police identified the man as Hector Rodriguez, 50.

Police said Rodriguez failed to yield the right of way to Laura Bernal, 27, the driver of the Ford F-150 that struck Rodriguez.

It happened at 3:45 p.m. on January 25, 2019 in the 9200 block of Yermoland.

Police said Bernal was driving west on Yermoland, attempting to make a left turn onto Lomaland at the same time Rodriguez was crossing Yermoland against the light.

Bernal’s truck collided with Rodriguez, transported to Del Sol Medical Center for treatment of “minor injuries,” said police. Rodriguez later died.

Police said the investigation continues. No charges have been filed. This is the ninth traffic fatality of 2019.

During this same time period in 2018 El Paso had also experienced nine traffic-related fatalities. The police department recorded 70 traffic fatalities in 2018.
