LCPD investigating wreck that critically injured 65-year-old bicyclist

Las Cruces Police are investigating a crash on Amador Avenue that hospitalized a 65-year-old bicyclist.

It happened shortly after 5 p.m. Monday, February 25, 2019. Police and firefighters were dispatched to a crash between a white Chevrolet pickup and a bicyclist at the intersection of Amador Avenue and Motel Boulevard.

Police said the bicyclist was initially transported to Mountainview Regional Medical Center, then airlifted to University Medical Center of El Paso. At last check, the bicyclist was in critical but stable condition.

A preliminary investigation indicates the Chevy pickup, driven by a 48-year-old man, was traveling west on Amador Avenue and was turning left, or south, onto Motel Boulevard when the crash occurred, police said.The bicyclist appeared to be heading east on Amador.

The driver of the pickup remained on scene and was cooperative with police. He was not injured in the crash.
