El Paso Locomotive FC falls 3-1 in first match against OKC Energy FC

El Paso Locomotive FC dropped its inaugural match 3-1 against OKC Energy FC Saturday night in front of a sell-out crowd at Southwest University Park.

It’s never easy when your opponent scores less than 30 seconds into your first match as a professional soccer team.

But the Locomotive found themselves trailing 1-0 Saturday night after mere seconds had surpassed in their franchise’s history.

Their opponent, Oklahoma City Energy FC, took that early lead when a left-footed shot across the face of goal from Deshorn Brown found its way into the net.

That gave the visiting OKC Energy an early lead, but the Locomotive would answer later in the first half.

Derek Gebhard scored the first goal in team history in the 16th minute on an easy strike in front of goal thanks to a perfectly-timed low cross from Sebastian Contreras to even the match at one.

Both teams would settle down defensively, and neither side would concede again in the first half.

But the Locomotive would find their resistance broken in the second half. In the 54th minute OKC would grab the lead again on Deshorn Brown’s second goal of the match.

They would then add an insurance goal in the 81st minute courtesy of Cordell Cato to put the game out of reach.

The Locomotive will next play Real Monarchs SLC in Utah this coming Saturday. They will then return home for their second home match at Southwest University Park on Saturday the 23rd against Rio Grande Valley FC.
