EPPD: Man shot outside Mexican Consulate; shooter arrested near Lydia Patterson Institute

El Paso Police are investigating a shooting in the Segundo Barrio that left one person with life-threatening wounds.

An El Paso Police spokesman said a person was shot outside the Mexican Consulate and ran inside the consulate for help. The shooting happened at about 4 p.m.

A person who witnessed the shooting followed the shooter to the Lydia Patterson Institute and alerted police. The school is located at 517 Florence.

The witness reportedly saw the gunman enter school grounds. Police and SWAT officers located the suspect along Stanton Street and secured the school.

Police said there are students at the school, but reassured parents the school has been secured. The school will remain on lock down while police reunite students with parents. Police tell ABC-7 parents can pick up their children at 3rd and Florence.

The Crime Scene Unit is at the Mexican Consulate, which is blocks away from the school in South El Paso. Police said they are looking into reports a second suspect is barricaded inside the consulate.
