Patriots sign former UTEP basketball and football player Cedrick Lang

UTEP fans may remember him more as a basketball player, but offensive tackle Cedrick Lang is now a member of the New England Patriots.

The team announced Monday they had signed Lang to a deal, although details regarding duration and salary were not made available.

The 6’7″ Lang played four seasons of basketball at UTEP and ranks first in program history in field goal percentage (.581) and fourth iin games played (130), according to the school’s website.

After his final year of basketball he joined the football team as a tight end and is noted for catching a game-winning touchdown to beat rival New Mexico State in 2015.

Lang has since transitioned to a new role as an offensive tackle in the NFL.

He spent the last season on the injured reserve list with the Minnesota Vikings. The season prior to that, he spent time on the practice squad in Minnesota.

He originally signed with the New York Giants in 2016 but never played a down for them. He also had a brief stint with the Denver Broncos in 2017 but did not see the field with them either.
