Adalberto Romero memorial held at Gadsden High School Baseball Game

The memorial service for Adalberto Romero was held at a Gadsden High School Baseball game.

The Baseball team is hosting Alamogordo for a doubleheader, and the memorial will be held between games.

Romero was a Gadsden High sophomore and played baseball on the school’s team.

According to police documents 16-year-old Romero, known as Beto, was struck and killed by 21-year-old Oscar Ivan Anchondo as he was getting into his family’s car to drive to school on Wednesday morning.

Friends of Romero told ABC-7 that Romero was “Always smiling, very happy always positive. He was a really good baseball player and you would never see him down.”

Different baseball teams from around the region were at the Gadsden baseball doubleheader today, to honor Romero. The Santa Teresa baseball team one of them. Coaches from Santa Teresa told ABC-7’s Christina Aguayo that their team did not have practice on Wednesday or today in honor of Romero.

Romero’s younger brother Brian threw out the first pitch in game one of the doubleheader. His father threw out the first pitch for the second game.

A teacher from Anthony Elementary school, also at the game to honor Romero, said that her entire student body wore white today to honor Romero. They also raised $640 to help the family with expenses.

Students and community members are wearing black ribbons, and also t-shirts with Romero’s picture on them.

Anchondo, who was arrested Wednesday evening, is being charged with Vehicular Homicide, Tampering with Evidence, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, driving without a license and driving without liability insurance.

Anchondo is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, April 9th.

Services for Romero are also scheduled for Tuesday.
