Celtics sign former NMSU guard Jonathan Gibson

Former New Mexico State guard Jonathan Gibson is back with the Boston Celtics after signing a deal with the team Tuesday.

Gibson appeared in four games last season with Boston and averaged 8.5 points per contest.

He was listed on the team’s roster Tuesday night in a win over the Wizards but did not play any minutes.

Gibson has appeared in 21 total games in his NBA career including 17 with the Dallas Mavericks.

He is known as an elite scorer who can heat up quickly as evidenced by the fact he once scored 60 points in back-to-back games while playing professionally in China.

Gibson also wore number 60 last season with Boston to mark that achievement. However, a Celtics press release indicated he will wear number 8 this year with the team.

Terms of his new deal with the Celtics were not disclosed, per team policy.
