Deputies arrest wanted sex offender in the Lower Valley

Deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office arrested a wanted sex offender Tuesday at a residence in the Lower Valley.

The sheriff’s office said deputies with the Fugitive Apprehension and Warrants Section arrested 36-year-old Michael Gonzalez on the 400 block of Schutz Dr.

Deputies were conducting an investigation at a residence on Schutz, and learned Gonzalez was inside. The sheriff’s office did not reveal if Gonzalez actually lived in that residence.

When the deputies tried to contact Gonzalez, he allegedly refused to open the door for deputies.

Gonzalez ultimately surrendered himself to deputies. He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility.

According to the sheriff’s office, Gonzalez is a convicted sex offender who failed to register.
