UPDATE: Hiker finds human remains, personal items and backpack at Organ Mountains, deputies say

The Doña Ana County Sheriffs Office says a hiker found human remains at the Organ Mountains Friday afternoon.

Kelly Jameson, a spokeswoman for the Doña Ana County, said a hiker found a human skeleton around 5 p.m. Friday near the Baylor Canyon area.

She also said the hiker found some personal items and a backpack near the remains. Deputies investigating the case said documents found inside the backpack might help identify the remains.

The remains were transported to the University of New Mexico Office of the Medical Examiner Saturday.

DASO is continuing to investigate the incident.
