Soldier murdered wife on post, Fort Bliss officials say

Military officials on Monday confirmed a soldier stationed at Fort Bliss is accused of murdering his wife.

“Sgt. Lance E. Colbert has been accused of murdering his spouse, Staff Sgt. Amy Colbert,” said Guy A. Volb, Garrison Public Affairs Office, Fort Bliss and 1st Armored Division.

The woman was murdered the evening of April 6, 2019.

On April 11, 2019, Sgt. Lance Colbert was charged with Murder, Communicating Threats, Stalking, and Indecent Language under the Uniformed Code of Military Justice, officials said.

Sgt. Lance Colbert remains in military custody and a preliminary court hearing has not been set.

Officials said Sgt. Amy Colbert was assigned to the 1st Armored Division Sustainment Brigade. She recently returned from an overseas deployment. Her husband is also assigned to the 1st Armored Division Sustainment Brigade.

The Army Times reports both Colberts were heavy vehicle drivers. Amy Colbert had recently returned from a deployment to Kuwait and was serving as a chemical equipment repairer. She was posthumously promoted from sergeant to staff sergeant, The Army Times reports.
