New water park to open in the Lower Valley next summer

A new water park is projected to open in the Lower Valley, specifically at Lionel Forti Park, by May 2020. The new water park will have a lap pool, lazy river, climbing wall, cabanas, and much more.

The park will have a small entrance fee, but city of El Paso has not decided on the rate yet. It will also be able to be rented out completely for large events.

The park will be called Chapoteo and have a “fiesta” theme.

“Well the Chapoteo is actually a Mexican culture type thing, you or anybody saw the movie Coco and the dead and all this stuff and the fiesta, and that’s what it’s all about,” says Mission Valley Civic Association President Sylvia Carreon.

With all the amenities the park will have to offer, it will take a lot of water to fill, but the city is looking to be as environmentally friendly as possible.

“This is a state of the art type of system, designed and incorporated into the project, make it as water and incorporate as much water conservation as possible as well as the energy savings component as well,” says city engineer Sam Rodriguez.

The park will be funded through the 2012 quality of life bond.
