Border Patrol agents apprehend more than 400 overnight in Sunland Park

U.S. Border Patrol agents in Southern New Mexico apprehended several large groups between midnight and sunrise on Tuesday, apprehending more than 600 undocumented immigrants in the process.

These groups were comprised primarily of Central American families and unaccompanied children.

Agents encountered a group with more than 400 undocumented immigrants in Sunland Park just after midnight. In total, 424 asylum seekers were taken into custody in Sunland Park overnight.

The U.S. Border Patrol said that while dealing with the influx in the Sunland Park area, Border Patrol agents working at the Antelope Wells Port of Entry arrested a large group of 230 undocumented immigrants at around 2 a.m.

This group was also comprised primarily of Central American families and unaccompanied juveniles, officials said.
