Body pulled from South El Paso canal;…

Border Patrol agents recovered a body from a south El Paso canal, and rescued two Mexican nationals Sunday night.

Border Patrol said four people jumped into the canal to avoid agents. Two were able to make it out on their own, the others needed to be rescued. All four were taken into Border Patrol custody. At the same time, the El Paso Fire Department’s water rescue team discovered a body in the same area.

Border Patrol said the drowning victim was not a part of the other group that was apprehended.

“The vigilance of our Border Patrol agents allowed them to respond immediately and prevent additional loss of life in this incident.” Interim Chief for the Border Patrol’s El Paso Sector said in a news release. “We cannot stress enough how dangerous these canals can be anytime of the year.”
