SWAT standoff in Las Cruces ends with arrest of wanted stalker

An unarmed man was arrested early Friday morning after an hours-long SWAT standoff in Las Cruces that began Thursday night.

A police dog assisted taking 30-year-old Vincente Sanchez into custody around 3:30 a.m., according to police. He had been barricaded inside a house along Claude Dove Drive since about 7 p.m.

Sanchez was reportedly injured by the dog, but police have not said how badly.

Authorities said the standoff began when officers went to serve a warrant for violation of a protection order.

Sanchez is charged with aggravated stalking and criminal trespass. Police said he was not armed when they took him into custody.
