UTEP ready to begin conference play; Hawkins staying put with Miners

UTEP head coach Rodney Terry says there's no reason to panic after two of his players announced their intention to transfer from the program.

One of those players was sophomore guard Nigel Hawkins.

Hawkins announced on Saturday he was entering the transfer portal, but then the following day Hawkins changed his mind and decided to stay at UTEP.

The same could not be said for UTEP starting guard Jordan Lathon who on Sunday announced his intention to transfer from UTEP.

UTEP only said through a statement that Lathon was transferring due to family reasons.

This all comes at a time when the Miners are getting ready to begin Conference USA play.

With an overall record of 9-4, UTEP will open conference play on the road against Florida International (9-4).
