Las Cruces, NM - Hopefully by 2023 Covid-19 will be in the rear view mirror, and the NMSU Aggies are looking ahead toward that football season.

New Mexico State and Northwestern have agreed to battle on the gridiron.

The two programs will clash on Oct. 23, 2023, at Ryan Field in Evanston, Ill.

The contest will mark the first-ever meeting between the Aggies and Wildcats.

Northwestern, led by head coach Pat Fitzgerald, went 3-9 overall, including a 1-8 mark in conference play, in 2019. Before last season, the Wildcats had gone to four consecutive bowl games and were ranked nationally as high as No. 12 in both the AP and Coaches Poll during the 2015 campaign.

The Aggies' 2023 slate also includes contests against UMass (Aug. 26), at San Diego State (Sept. 2), at Hawaii (Sept. 23), against UTEP (Oct. 7), at Louisiana (Oct. 14) and against Liberty (Nov. 25).

In addition, NM State will continue its rivalry series with New Mexico on a date later to be announced.
