ABC-7 First Alert: Active weather will sweep through the region

El Paso, Texas- It will be the battle of two air masses today that will ultimately decide who sees rain and who sees winds. Thunderstorms will develop towards the east in Hudspeth & Culberson county. However, towards the west, drier air will persist and winds will be gusting around 30-35 MPH.

The storms that develop out east could become severe very quickly this afternoon. These storms can also produce heavy rainfall at times, hail, and gusty winds. The outflow winds will also kick up any sand/dirt and may reduce visibility.

So here's the bad news... If you plan on attending any graduation ceremonies in Las Cruces today, you will want to hold on to your caps. Morning ceremonies will see fair weather and light winds. As we head into the afternoon winds will strengthen to around 25-35 MPH.

Temps will hover around 90 degrees for today.
