El Paso Police: driver failed to yield right of way in deadly motorcycle crash

TXDOT

EL PASO, Texas - Police say 59-year-old Juan Pablo Sifuentes, a California resident, died in a crash Saturday after another driver failed to yeild the right of way in south-central El Paso.

It happened at Alameda and Gateway North at around 10 a.m.

The investigation revealed 25-year-old Amber Lynn Valdez was driving west on Alameda while Sifuentes was in the eastbound lanes of Alameda.

Police say Valdez tried to make a left turn, but failed to yield to Sifuentes.

Valdez struck Sifuentes, throwing him from his motorcycle, causing him to land on the sidewalk

Sifuentes was transported to UMC where he later died.

The Texas Department of Transportation has renewed its "Look Twice" awarness campaign to remind drivers to be aware of motorcyclists on the road.

The campaign urges drivers to take extra care when making a left turn, it's safest to let the motorcyclist pass to avoid turning in front of the rider.
