UPDATE (09/01): Officials with Fort Bliss say a missing 21-year-old soldier has been found safe.

Messam contacted authorities.

The First Armored Division is reporting that he is safe.

On social media the first Armored Division said in a post, "Pfc. Messam has contacted authorities and we can confirm he is safe. Thank you to everyone who took the time to share our post to help us locate the Soldier."

FORT BLISS, Texas -- Fort Bliss is searching for a missing 21-year-old soldier. According to the post, Pfc. Shemar Messam was last heard from at about 5:20 p.m. on Monday, August 29.

Officials say the 1st Armored Division has attempted to contact Messam by phone and by visits to his off-post apartment multiple times in the last 24 hours. Calls to Messam's family have also been unsuccessful.

Fort Bliss officials are asking anyone with information to contact them at 915-744-2115.
